Kids of every age need to see a dentist regularly to ensure their mouths are developing properly, and to avoid common childhood dental issues like cavities in their baby teeth or permanent teeth. At Pediatric Dental World, Dr. Clapp, Dr. Bell, Dr. Lee, and Dr. Smith provide expert pediatric care for kids of all ages. Schedule an appointment now, or learn more about our services below.
Routine teeth cleanings and oral exams help your pediatric dentist track your child’s oral health and development, and check for signs of potential oral health problems like cavities. Routine visits give you peace of mind, and ensure that your child’s mouth is healthy. And if one of our dentists does notice an issue, you can get care right away, which will save you both time and money in the long run.
Not sure what to expect if you’ve never brought your child into our office for an appointment before? Your child’s appointment will consist of two basic steps, as follows:
First, one of our dental hygienists will gently scrape away plaque and tartar from your child’s teeth, buff their teeth with a high-powered brush, and floss between their teeth to remove any remaining debris, leaving them with a bright and beautiful smile.
Next, one of our pediatric dentists will perform a comprehensive examination of your child’s teeth. X-rays may be suggested if we believe they are necessary for your child, and if you approve. Once your child’s exam is over, your dentist will discuss your child’s oral health and any necessary follow-up appointments with you. This is also the perfect time to ask any questions you may have about caring for your child’s smile.
Preventive pediatric care consists of regular six-month teeth cleanings and additional treatments, like fluoride treatments to strengthen your child’s teeth, or dental sealants to protect against cavities. With regular preventive care, you can reduce your child’s risk of cavities, gum disease, and other oral health issues.
We offer restorative treatments, like pediatric fillings and crowns, to repair teeth that have been damaged by decay or oral injuries, and to keep your child’s smile healthy. With our gentle approach to dentistry, you can trust us to take great care of your little one.
Not sure what to do to make sure your child’s first dental visit goes well? Here are a few of our top tips for preparing for their first appointment at Pediatric Dental World.
Do your best to only use positive language and to maintain an upbeat attitude about your child’s first dental visit. Kids are very sensitive to how their parents feel, so if you’re negative or seem anxious, they may feel the same way.
You can watch YouTube videos, check out children’s books about dentistry from the library, and explore other resources to teach them the basics about oral hygiene and the importance of dentistry.
Kids are less likely to be cranky in the morning when they’re well-rested, so we typically recommend bringing your child in for their first visit early. This will help ensure they’re in a good mood before they get treatment.
